VENTUS
VAN NICHOLAS ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF THEIR RE-IMAGINED ENTRY-LEVEL ROAD BIKE, THE VENTUS.
Heerenveen September the 3rd, 2020 - Intended for the road rider keen to experience the magical ride of Titanium for the first time, the original Ventus proved a hugely popular addition to the Van Nicholas stable when it was originally introduced. The new iteration now boasts disc brakes and a host of other technological updates that look likely to ensure this model remains just as popular.
“We wanted to pack our budget road bike full of the very latest innovations,” says Ralph Moorman, General Manager of Van Nicholas, “so it would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the more expensive bikes in our collection.” To that end, the Ventus sports an integrated head set and a full carbon front fork with integrated brake cable routing – features that were originally designed for their Skeiron model. As Ralph explains: “Taking what we have learned when designing our top-of-the-range models and ‘trickling down’ that knowledge is a crucial part of our design process. Ultimately, improving one of our bikes, should help to improve all of our bikes.”
This commitment to passing on technological innovations from the wider Van Nicholas range continues with the addition of 12mm thru-axles, which aid rigidity and power transfer, and the integrated brake cabling in the down tube for improved aerodynamics. “The flat-mounted disc brakes with 160mm rotors were another key feature we chose to incorporate,” says Ralph. “Not only do they offer much better stopping power over conventional rim brakes in all weather conditions, but the flat mounts improve the aerodynamic potential at one of the ‘messier’ points – for wind disturbance, that is – on the frame.” Small details, but they all make a difference.
Van Nicholas perform a set of proprietary tests that exceed ISO standards on all their products, and the Ventus passed all tests, from impact and fatigue stress, to saddle load and braking, with flying colours. With a Frame Stiffness Measurement of ‘Excellent’, and geometry calculated for fast, competitive riding, the Ventus is the ideal bike for racing, club rides or training purposes. Titanium’s legendary ride quality, along with tyre clearance up to 28-622, ensure any rough edges are smoothed out and even long days in the saddle will be a breeze. Anyone looking to get a head start on the competition and take their first step into the world of Titanium, would be wise to do it on a Ventus.
